My, my…the summer is flying by like a speeding bullet! It won’t be long before we can start thinking that cooler days are on the way.

On July 25th, we bid farewell and Godspeed to Vicar Wright and Rebekah. It really does seem impossible that they have been in our midst for a year. A wonderful dinner was held in their honor. The proceeds from a freewill offering totaled $2,794. Surely these funds will be a big help in Vicar’s final year at the seminary. We will miss them greatly.

Just as it is with sadness that we say goodbye to Vicar Wright and Rebekah, it is with great joy that we welcome Vicar Brummett and his family. On August 8th, the Kitchen Committee will serve a tasty dinner. The menu consists of ham, au gratin potatoes, green bean casserole, salad, and rolls. Now you may have noticed that dessert if missing from the menu…because we are asking for your help in that area. On the signup sheet in the narthex, please indicate if you will be willing to bake and bring homemade cookies. This is your chance to make those really special ones that you make once or twice a year! (You know…those “knock your socks off” cookies!) Remember, this dinner is your chance to get to know the Brummett family a bit better. Sign up or call the Church Office if you’re planning to attend.

On August 2nd-4th, Lutheran Church of the Cross is hosting a Concordia Theological Seminary Continuing Education class. The Kitchen Committee has generously volunteered to set up, prepare, and serve breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to the attendees. Their dedication and efforts are most appreciated. Thank you!

A spaghetti dinner on August 22nd will be a benefit dinner for the Bracke family. As many of you are aware, baby Jeremiah has had brain surgery, and the family has incurred many uncovered expenses. The Kitchen Committee will prepare the meal, and the Scouts will be serving. We thank them in advance for their time and willingness to help. Please indicate on the signup sheet if you are willing to bring a dessert. Some generous donors are sponsoring the costs of the dinner. All of the freewill donations will be given to the Brackes. Let’s show this young Christian family how much we love and care for them. Make your plans to attend!
