Continuing
Education Course – August 11-13, 2008

Members
of the Board of Christian Education are again very pleased and excited
to announce a unique educational opportunity that will be coming in
August to Lutheran Church of the Cross. Our church has again
been chosen to be one of twenty-five sites around the country to host
a continuing education course sponsored by Concordia Theological
Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Last year we hosted a similar course
with twenty four pastors, vicar and lay persons in attendance.
On August 11-13, 2008, Professor Reverend Harold L. Senkbeil, M.Div.,
S.T.M., D.D. of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, will
present a discussion entitled, “Equipped to Serve”.
This seminar is designed to help elected and
volunteer leaders of congregations review the responsibilities of lay
leadership within the broader context of Lutheran identity, mission,
and worship. Time is also given during the course to work-shopping
common challenges faced by congregation officers. Pastors throughout
the district are encouraged to bring their lay leaders to the
seminar. This year our Board is hopeful that an even greater
number of LCC members will set aside these dates and take advantage of
this opportunity right in our backyard.
The course outline is particularly pertinent to the
many dedicated lay church workers we are blessed with at LCC:
-
Who
are We? – Lutheran Identity
-
Third
Article – The Means of the Spirit, Church and Ministry
-
Servants
in the “Hood”: Priests at work in daily vocation
-
What
is an Elder? – Understanding lay and clergy roles in the church
-
Worship
and Evangelism
-
Reaching
Inactives
-
Cultural
Awareness and Mission
July 11, 2008, is the deadline for registering for the seminar, so if
you have not already done so, please sign up to join pastors and other
lay persons from throughout the district in attending what promises to
be a very interesting and valuable educational program in our
Fellowship and Ministry Center.

Theological Seminary website at
